This blog is moving!

June 27, 2007

Well, technically this blog is staying here. But the essence of this blog is moving to a new home: Mania’s Arcania.

As I mentioned many posts ago, I’m not entirely satisfied with the functionality I have with a free hosted blog here at — so I set up a WordPress blog on my own host, on a domain I had lying around. *grin* Then I spent the past several days playing with all that new functionality, setting up a theme and plugins and all, and getting very little done …

I’ve closed down comments here and this will be the last post I make on this blog, although this blog will remain here as a pointer to the new blog, if nothing else. All of the posts (except this one) and all of the existing comments have been transferred to the new blog, so if you’ve been reading this you can just wander over there and pick up the conversation exactly where you left off. And I do sincerely hope that you will.

I started this blog to give myself someplace to be a little more chatty, and it truly surprised me how much I’ve enjoyed it. Mania’s Arcania is both a continuation and an expansion of this blog — a more permanent and flexible place to discuss my overwhelming obsession for the past two years: the magic of hunter pets .

Tip of the Day

June 26, 2007

If you are ever bored and looking for something to do in WoW, try jacking up all your graphics settings, zooming into first person mode, turning off the interface, and taking one of the long, cross-country flight routes. I was surprised at how enthralled I was just watching the landscape go by. Areas I think of as boring were absolutely stunning when I actually paid attention.

Mangeclaw Misadventures

June 24, 2007

I’ve been spending a lot of time lately running new hunter characters to level 10. My main goal is to research the level 10 pet quests for a new top-secret project that I’m working on, but since that requires several new characters I’ve decided to kill two birds with one stone and set these characters up for my Grand Experiment as well.

Bugs and Whatnot

June 22, 2007

Having issues with your pet bar not showing up when you dismount or when you call your pet? I’ve been hearing about this for some time now, and although it doesn’t happen to me much it does happen — and it is really annoying! But thankfully, it looks like Blizzard is making a concentrated effort to gather information about the problem as demonstrated by this post on the Bug Report forum.

In addition, there’s a useful post on the same forum about known issues in Patch 2.1.2. As of right now, the only hunter-specific thing I see in there is that Hunter’s Mark does not properly update itself when re-applied.

And finally, the Bug Report forum also has an interesting post on issues that are not bugs but that people keep trying to report anyway.

Additional Ghost Saber Info

June 21, 2007

In a comment on the Ghost Saber Gallery post, degbunke asked:

A little question: what does “spawned” mean in the list of cats on the site? Some of the other pets have “quest spawn” and “rare” after their names and lvls, and it’s quite obvious what that means, but “spawned”…? Is it something extra special or just a typo…?

So I thought I’d better explain.

Patch 2.1.2 is Live!

June 19, 2007

I was surprised to learn that Patch 2.1.2 made it onto the live servers this morning. Normally it would be longer between me posting about what’s on the PTR and posting that it had gone live, but I was a bit out of things the past week or two. :> At any rate, you can find the official patch notes in the normal patch note location. It doesn’t look like there have been any major changes for hunter since the PTR notes I posted yesterday, so I’ll forgo posting them again.

Ghost Saber Gallery

June 19, 2007

The Ghost Saber Gallery is finally up on Petopia! Okay, it isn’t everything I was hoping to get done just yet — it only includes a few of the many great shots that you guys sent to me, it doesn’t have a mini-walkthrough on how to tame a Ghost Saber, and I wasn’t able to figure out how to fake a transparent Ghost Saber in the WoW Model Viewer. But at least it’s up!

PTR Patch 2.1.2

June 18, 2007

In my absence last week I missed a new patch oing up on the Public Test Realm — patch 2.1.2. This isn’t a major content patch, but it does promise to fix some of the annoyances introduced with Patch 2.1. You can find the full Patch 2.1.2 notes here.

But here’s the stuff hunters will likely be most interested in:

Catching Up

June 18, 2007

Egad! Time just flies when you’re working hard! I had no idea it had been so long since my last post. Things are beginning to lighten up a little for us, although I’m unfortunately not making any headway on getting us moved. Still, I ought to have time to post some info here that’s come in over the past week, maybe respond to some of the new comments, and I’ll also see if I can get an update done on Petopia. We’ll see how the week goes. :>

Also MIA: Mania

June 8, 2007

I’m afraid I haven’t had a lot of time for Petopia or for this blog the past week or so. We’re in the final stages of QA on our first game and with just the two of us it’s a bit busy. Plus I’m also trying to get us moved cross-country in the near future. So I just haven’t had a lot of time. With that in mind, I thought it would be polite to let you know that I probably won’t be posting here or updating the site very much at all for a short while, and I am likely to take even longer than normal responding to e-mail. I’ll be back as soon as things lighten up a bit for me, and I’ll do my best to keep the site updated with any really big or exciting changes (although to be honest I don’t expect much until the next big patch). Thanks for your patience!
